Personal Branding Know How
Are you curious how people are going to know you when you start marketing on the internet? Well, the answer is pretty simple but does take work and persistence. Introducing yourself to people on the internet is called “personal branding”. The point is you want to get your face in places that your prospects frequent on the internet. There are many methods and techniques marketers use to brand themselves. One tool to create that “You Inc” branding is social media. Places such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkden, etc. are all great places to spread your face and your words. Most of the people on the planet hang out in these locations and when they see you there you appear to them as a personal friend. This builds rapport, personal relationships, and trust.
Personal Branding Blog Site
The next place to be seen is by attracting people to your own person blog site. If you can have an article or blogpost turn up on the first page of a search engine list with something meaningful to your prospect they are more likely to click on your post get whisked away to your site. Once there they should be engaged and interested to look around the nooks and crannies to find out of you are a good fit for them. If you refer back to my blogpost on how to create a good blog site you will remember that a picture of you in the header location is essential for your personal branding. In essence your blog site is like your home, it is the place that folks can go to see you, find out who you are, and learn what you do and what you have to say. This is how they will know you, like you, and trust you enough to do business with you.
So here is a point I really want to make. When you are new on the internet it is easy to be intimidated by all the seemingly technical procedures you need to learn. And for this reason many people tend to look for systems to help them move past the learning curve. Now, I am a huge fan of systems on the internet, you might say I encourage their use. But be warned….you want a system that will allow you to brand yourself the instant you are ready to take your experience to the next level. For instance, the internet marketing system I use, MLSP, is built ready to go just the way it is, however, their pages are customizable so you can insert pictures of yourself, videos you create, and your own text and ad copy if you so desire. This method of personal branding helps people to get to know you.
Personal Branding Faux Pas
I have a friend that is totally new to internet marketing and, of course, I told her
I would be happy to help her set up a WordPress Blogsite when she was ready. I never heard from her and after a couple of months she told me that she had finally started blogging and she was excited to show off her first post. I was proud of her for taking that first step towards personal branding so I clicked on the link to see what she had done.
When the web page opened I was shocked at what I saw. Instead of seeing my friend’s smiling face, there was a huge header of 2 wild looking guys that almost took up my entire screen! The whole reason for blogging in the first place was lost as there was not even small picture of her off to the side. This was not her home and I did not see anything that told me about her.
What happened to my friend was not her fault neither was it the fault of the system she bought. Everyone wants to help people and newbies want to cut corners so they don’t have to figure out the “hard” stuff. So I say, go ahead and use the system but I also want to encourage you to build your own blog. Make your home to invite others into but you don’t have to do it alone! Places like Godaddy, Hostgator, Aweber, and other companies have excellent customer service and they will walk you through every step until you have completed setting up your blog or whatever you are trying to do. I have learned from doing just this, asking for help and get guided through a set up procedure.
So, don’t settle for someone else’s face on your blog site. Take matters into your own hands, learn how to do it yourself but also ask for help.
